Christie Walton, of Blazed and Bedazzled, was invited to Hilltop Elementary School by the PTO to help the kindergartners create a big holiday surprise for their parents Nov. 30. Walton helped the students make a special personalized gift for the upcoming holidays.
Walton brought tiles and all the supplies the children would need, including paints and brushes, to the classrooms and the students used their handprint in paint to create a snowman. After adding a hat, eyes and a mouth, the children were done with their part of the creation. Several PTO volunteers were also on hand to help the children.
Walton told the kindergartners she would add a nose, arms and a scarf back at the studio and then ‘cook’ the tiles in the kiln for 24 hours to set the paint. The children’s names and the year were also added to the tile.
When the tiles were completely finished, Walton told the students she would bring them back to the school in time for the holidays so they could take them home to give to their families.
She also reminded them this was a surprise for their parents and encouraged them to keep it a surprise by not telling their families about the project, which may have been a tough feat for some.
When asked, a few kindergartners said they were going to keep the secret, but a few others said wouldn’t be able to keep the secret, they were too excited about the special present.
Blazed and Bedazzled is located in Boardman and is owned by Kathy Grantonic.
