The Mahoning-Trumbull Toys for Tots campaign got a generous boost from Kennsington Golf Club of Canfield recently when the club presented a check for more than $2,000 on a local morning television show.

The club’s owner, Chuck Whitman, and general manager and golf pro Paul Otto appeared on “WFMJ Today!” with Lauren Lindvig and presented a check to the Toys for Tots coordinator, Marine Sgt. Modesto Montano.

This year, the club collected more than 600 toys and handed out certificates for more than $11,000 worth of free golf. To kick off the Toys for Tots event, Whitman organized an annual Ohio State-Michigan Toys for Tots Kickoff Tailgate Party, which took place Nov. 30. More than 150 toys were donated for the event.

Proceeds from a silent auction, 50-50 raffle and 10 percent of food sales generated a cash donation of $2,126.95.
