YOUNGSTOWN

Eastern Gateway Community College, in its continuing attempts to make higher education more accessible, now offers self-paced, student- directed online courses.

The college in partnership with Pearson expanded its online course catalog to include four new self-paced, student-directed courses. Courses in World Civilization I, American Government, General Psychology and Introduction to Sociology are available in a self-paced online learning program that allows students to master academic courses at their own pace.

These courses are fully inclusive of all course components, including interactive lesson presentations, downloadable audio podcasts, eBook, assessments, live tutoring and student success coaching. This new offering provides a flexible and affordable way to get started toward a college degree, gain credits while balancing family and job responsibilities, or finish those final general education credits needed to graduate.

Other highlights include:

The course experience has been optimized to meet students where they are most comfortable. Laptops, tablets, and other mobile devices — no matter where they learn, they’re sure to have a consistent, quality learning experience.

Courses include a pace chart to track the progress of course completion. Courses may be completed in as little as a few short weeks or by the end of the 16-week semester.

Each course includes a personalized study guide that evaluations confidence heading into each section and provides a recommended study path based on individual results.

Courses also contain virtual academic advising resources, online tutoring services and direct access to a personal student success coach.

The courses will begin Jan. 13. More details about the courses and registration may be obtained by contacting Mallory Yankush, recruitment coordinator, at online@egcc.edu and 330-480-0726, ext. 3103.
