Akron Children’s has matured into a crown jewel of the Valley

Five years ago this month, Akron Children’s Hospital made a compassionate commitment to the Mahoning Valley in opening its expansive Beeghly Campus in Boardman.

Five years later, it has proven that commitment and continues to build upon it.

Numbers tell part of the story. In those five years, the 32-bed comprehensive 24-hour pediatric hospital on Market Street has demonstrated time and time again its commitment to quality children’s health care. It has logged 117,226 emergency visits, 97,953 specialty visits, 88,797 primary care visits, 49,387 outpatient visits, 23,083 outpatient radiology procedures and 3,881 surgeries.

Grateful parents tell another part of the story. Having a reputable pediatric hospital in the Valley eases the stresses of having a child in a faraway hospital, such as juggling work schedules and finding caretakers for the rest of the family. In addition to cutting expenses, it also brings priceless amounts of peace of mind.

OUR COMMUNITY IS HAPPY TO GIVE

Finally, a grateful community embellishes the ACH story. Philanthropic giving supported the opening of the Ronald McDonald McFamily Respite Center in 2009, the Garden of Hope and the Kikel Center for Pediatric Surgery in 2010, and Alex’s Playground in 2012, among other programs and services. Since 2008, more than $9.3 million has been donated in support of ACH Mahoning Valley programs and services.

All told, Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley shines as a crown jewel in our community. We join others today in thanking its leadership for the quality service and commitment it has given our youth. We also wish the hospital a long, prosperous and healthy stay in the Mahoning Valley.
