GENOA, Ohio

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed one driver and injured two people in northwest Ohio.

The patrol says 54-year-old Russell H. Warnke of Northwood was driving his truck southbound on Route 51 in Ottawa County on Friday when he suffered an undisclosed medical problem causing him to drive left of center. His vehicle then collided head-on with that of Jacob M. Thompson of Toledo.

Authorities say the 32-year-old Thompson was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Warnke also was not wearing a seat belt and suffered “incapacitating” injuries. He was transported to a Toledo hospital. His 53-year-old passenger, Wanda L. Warnke, also was seriously injured.

The patrol says alcohol was not a factor, and no citations have been issued.
