Women's fingers accidentally shot during struggle

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating the accidental discharge of a gun Thursday afternoon on the East Side that slightly injured two people.

The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of East High Avenue.

The 39-year-old female homeowner and a 37-year-old woman were arguing when the homeowner grabbed a .32-caliber revolver and told the woman she had mental health problems and was going to “harm herself because of all the problems,” according to the police report. The woman then tried to take the gun away from the homeowner to prevent her from harming herself. During the struggle, however, the gun accidentally discharged, striking both women on two fingers of their left hands.

Police did not charge either woman, as both said the discharge was accidental.
