Drund donates devices to Austintown Fitch

Three mobile devices have been donated to Austintown Fitch High School from the developers of DRUND.

At the beginning of this school year, Austintown Fitch joined DRUND, a private mobile application used to increase communication between schools, parents, teachers and students. Fitch has been working closely with the developers to improve and promote DRUND’s functionality in schools.

“We are so excited that Fitch has embraced DRUND that we decided to donate mobile devices to two teachers to give to students,” Adam Magana, Austintown graduate and lead mobile engineer, said.

Magana presented the mobile devices to Steve Ward and Nicole McBurney. Ward received a Kindle Fire.

Nicole McBurney received a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and a Netbook. The Samsung was raffled off to any Fitch students or staff who donated toward her Salvation Army fund. Sheila Henline, the Fitch Media Center librarian was the winner.

The Netbook was raffled to one of the Talon Journalists, who have been avid broadcasters on the DRUND application. Bri Brocious was the winner.

Magana decided to enter all the names of students who donated to the Teens for Jeans charity drive for the opportunity to win another device. The winner will be announced Jan. 15 at the Creative Arts Night at Fitch High School.

DRUND offers several features, including, assignment and collection of homework assignments, live updates for school sporting events, notifications through push technology, parent interaction, fundraising capabilities and general communications.

“We decided to move forward with DRUND because all of the features are controlled completely by school officials,” Vincent Colaluca, Austintown Superintendent, said. “It’s a private mobile communications application for schools that can only be accessed by invited guests.”
