Winter Nights

When: Sunday, 5 to 7 p.m.

What: Stroll along a mile of paths and enjoy the winter celebration during extended evening hours at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Way. There will be cookies, hot cocoa, entertainment and more. Support the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley with a donation of a nonperishable food item.

Calorie Burner Hike

When: Sunday, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

What: Been overindulging lately? Want to burn off up to 1,000 calories? On the final hike of 2013, we’ll loop Mill Creek Park’s largest body of water. Meet at Mill Creek MetroParks Newport Wetlands parking lot. Moderate-difficult rating, five miles.

Bird in the Hand

When: Jan. 4, 9 to 10 a.m.

What: Black-capped chickadees are inquisitive birds that can sometimes be coaxed into landing on your hand — especially if you tempt them with food. Join Nancy Brundage, an Ohio-certified volunteer naturalist, at this unique annual program. We’ll provide the birdseed if you’ll provide the hands.

Digital Scavenger Hunt

When: Jan. 5, 2 to 4 p.m.

What: Start 2014 by searching for nature’s hidden treasures. Check in at Ford Nature Center for a list of nature items to track down and document with a camera or phone. Everyone is welcome. The hunt is especially recommended for families with older children. Meet at the nature center.

Concert

When: Jan. 9, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

What: Enjoy an evening of music as we kick off the 2014 Winter Concert Series with Jim Frank.

Where: Yellow Creek Park, 191/2 Lowellville Road, Struthers.

When: Jan. 15, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What: Mobile media marketing for farms, landscapers and food businesses. Understand how farmers and other food businesses benefit from free listings on Internet maps, GPS systems and mobile applications.
