Man pleads not guilty to charges after Ohio crash

FREMONT, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio man has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to vehicular homicide charges after authorities say he was traveling at more than 125 mph when his car struck a minivan, killing the couple inside it.

An attorney for Andrew D. Gans of Kent said he entered the pleas for his client today in Sandusky County court. Terry Rudes tells The Associated Press that the 24-year-old Gans has a history of mental health issues.

Wilbur and Margaret McCoy, both 77, of Toledo were killed in the Thanksgiving night crash. Troopers with the Ohio State highway Patrol said they were wearing seat belts when they were hit.

Two troopers separately spotted Gans’ car but weren’t able to catch or keep up with it before the crash near Fremont, about 40 miles southeast of Toledo.
