NORTH LIMA

Good Hope Lutheran Church, 12030 Market St., announces Walking through Grief, Finding your Path. The support group respects the difference in each individual’s walk through grief. Grief education and support will be offered by Jane Peachey, a licensed independent social worker and bereavement facilitator with more than 18 years of experience.

Groups begin from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 9 at the church. Evening groups will begin from 5:30 to 7 p.m. March 4. For information and to register for groups, call 330-549-2406 or 234-567-1461.

LaBrae district earns state award

LEAVITTSBURG

The LaBrae School District has received the Auditor of State Award for having received a clean audit recently.

It was one of 12 entities receiving the award Tuesday.

The award goes to local governments and school districts upon completion of a financial audit that provides timely financial information to the Ohio auditor’s office.

To be eligible for the award, the entity must not have any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies or questioned costs in its audit.

Christmas fire

SALEM

A Christmas evening fire heavily damaged a house at 583 W. Pershing St., the Salem Fire Department reported.

The department was called out at 6:54 p.m. The resident, a single man, was not injured.

The fire is still under investigation, the department said.

Man is shot but is uncooperative

YOUNGSTOWN

Police said a man who was shot in the leg walked into St. Elizabeth Health Center at 2:46 p.m. Wednesday.

The hospital called police, but the 53-year-old man would not cooperate with them, a police report says.

The man tried to leave the hospital, but police restrained him. He said only that he was shot on the city’s North Side, but would not tell police anything about who shot him.

Gunshot causes crash on Front St.

YOUNGSTOWN

Police said a man was injured after a shooting in a car that caused the driver to wreck. Police said they were called to Front Street at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and found a 24-year-old Youngstown man lying in the street in pain.

The driver told police she ducked her head and wrecked after someone in the car shot a gun. It was unclear whether there were three or four people in the car. One person fled, police were told, but another passenger said there were only three occupants. The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he underwent surgery to repair a broken femur.
