The Surgical Hospital at Southwoods, 7630 Southern Blvd,, a physician-owned acute-care facility, was named a 2013 Guardian of Excellence Award winner by Press Ganey Associates Inc. for the fourth consecutive year.

The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes facilities that consistently achieve the 95th percentile of performance in patient satisfaction. Fewer than 5 percent of Press Ganey clients reach this threshold and consistently maintain it for one year.

Health care education meetings

One Health Ohio is offering community meetings to educate people about the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid Expansion in Ohio at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, January through March 2014.

Help wanted

Trumbull Mobile Meals, 323 E. Market St., is seeking help delivering meals to people in the community who are limited in mobility, ill, frail and home-bound. With assistance, these clients are able to remain self-sufficient in their own homes for a longer period of time. Interested people can call 330-394-2538.

Free two-day mental health plan

Reversing heart disease program

The Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease is offering its six-week Spectrum Program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29 and Feb. 5 and 12.

Grief 101 program

Grief 101, a program presented by Hospice of the Valley bereavement facilitators, will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 9 at St. Joe’s at the Mall, Eastwood Mall, Niles (behind Sears).

The program explains the grieving process and its impact on people and families. Support materials will be distributed. It is free and open to the public. Registration is preferred but not required. For information, call 330-549-5901.

SlimDown program

Humility of Mary Health Partners registered dietitians are offering their SlimDown program from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 8- Feb. 12, at St. Joe’s at the Mall, Eastwood Mall (behind Sears), Niles; and Thursdays, Jan. 9- Feb. 13, in Community Room 2 of the D.D. and Velma Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, Boardman.

The cost of SlimDown, a six-week weight management program that focuses on lifestyle changes in food, activities and behaviors, is $40 for new participants and $20 for repeat participants.

To register online, go to HMpartners.org and select “Events;” choose the start date of the program wanted and select “Register Now.” The registration deadline is one week before the program begins. There will be no registration at the door.
