Naval aviator

Navy Lt. Junior Grade Jonathan E. Williams, son of Paul and MaryAnn Williams of Leetonia, recently was designated a Naval aviator and received his “Wings of Gold” while serving at Training Air Wing One, Meridian, Miss.

Williams, a 2007 graduate of Leetonia High School, underwent a training curriculum that included basic studies in engineering and navigation, training flights in simulators, aircraft familiarizations, basic and advanced instrument training, extended navigation flights and landings and takeoffs aboard an aircraft carrier. He joined the Navy in May 2011.

Air Force: Airman Jonathan A. Rivera (Chaney High School, ’09), son of Elizabeth Rivera of Youngstown; Air National Guard Airman Mark A. Jones (Lowellville High School, ’05), son of Mark Jones of Lowellville.

Army: Pvt. Nick Haydu (Mathews High School, ’12), son of Robert Haydu of McDonald, and grandson of John and Joyce Haydu of Columbiana; Reserve Pvt. Andrew D. Ferrante, son of Tracy Ferrante of New Wilmington, Pa., and Roger Ferrante of Canfield; Reserve Pvt. Robert C. Williams (Sharpsville High School, Sharpsville, Pa., ’13), the grandson of Carol Vitovic of Hermitage, Pa.; Pvt. Zachary T. DeVivo (Columbiana High School, ’12), is stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., with the Stryker Brigade; Pvt. Rodney N. Billiter Jr. (Boardman High School, ’10), son of Michelle Billiter of North Lima.

Leadership training

Army Cadet Molly L. Kohler graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps’ four-week Leader’s Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky. The course is a leadership internship for cadets that can lead to their goal of becoming an Army officer.

Kohler, a 2011 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, is a student at The University of Akron. She is the daughter of David Kohler of Youngstown and Paula Kohler of Canfield.
