The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley has opened its funding process to any nonprofit organization delivering health and human services in Mahoning County and in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard in Trumbull County.

“We seek to be the driving force behind sustained improvement in the lives of all citizens, through initiatives that promote the impact areas of education, income, health and community support services. We look forward to receiving program proposals that establish strategies that meet the needs of our community in those areas,” said Robert Hannon, president of the local United Way.

“Working with our community partners on focused impact areas will continue to create powerful collaborations to address our Valley’s specific issues while providing comprehensive services and measurable results for those in need,” he said.

Nonprofit organizations that wish to apply for funding through United Way should visit www.ymvunitedway.org for planning documents that outline the focus areas and strategies. Agencies that wish to apply must submit a grant application which can be located through a link on the www.ymvunitedway.org Home Page.

Grant applications on the required form must be received by Feb. 14, 2014. They can be mailed or delivered in person to the Community IMPACT Committee, United Way of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley, 255 Watt St., Youngstown, OH 44505-3010, or submitted electronically to kluke@ymvunitedway.org.

Currently, 34 partner agencies receive United Way funding to provide some 70 health and human service programs and initiatives that create change.

In addition to its funded partner agencies, the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley provides direct initiatives to programs such as Success by 6, which seeks to make sure children under age 6 are prepared to enter kindergarten; Success After 6, which is an after-school intervention program; the Financial Stability Partnership and other work around children’s health services and senior well-being.

In 2013, the United Way executive committee approved funding of some $1,958,875 to programs and to United Way-led initiatives.
