South Range rallies, hands Lisbon first loss

LISBON

South Range exploded for a 28-15 fourth-quarter advantage to rally from a 34-30 deficit and hand the Lisbon (6-1, 4-1 ITCL Tier One) its first loss of the season, 58-49. It was the first win for the Raiders (1-5, 1-4) who were led by Niek Wiery with 19 points, Mark Vinnetti with 12 and Greg Dunham with 11. The Blue Devils got 15 points from Avery Andric and 10 each from Josh Liberati and Austin Rutecki. Liberati added six assists and four steals and Rutecki had 10 rebounds.

Niles 60, Brookfield 58, OT

BROOKFIELD

Niles’ James Tate made five 3-pointers and finished with 18 points as the Red Dragons score the only two points of the overtime period to defeat Brookfield. Caleb Hunkus had 14 points and Jamar Tarver had 13 to lead the Warriors. Cameron Kane scored a game-high 22 points for Niles, who came back from six points down at the start of the fourth quarter to tie the game and for overtime.

Youngstown Christian 53, Lordstown 50

YOUNGSTOWN

Seven different players scored in the fourth quarter as the Eagles rallied from a 39-35 fourth-quarter deficit. Shawn Staples led Youngstown Christian with 22 points but got plenty of help as the Eagles put together an 18-11 fourth quarter. Preston Sutton scored 16 points for Lordstown, Nick Johnson had 14 and Jake Jones 13.

Hudson 64, East 56

The Panthers (1-4) put together a 22-15 fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough. Anthony Reid scored 22 points for East and Dalane Brown added 18 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Hudson (4-1) was led by Kevin Zullo with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Howland 53, Struthers 51

HOWLAND

Reece Bogan scored a game-high 22 points as Howland used a 23-point second quarter to defeat Struthers by two. The Wildcats made nine 3-pointers, including five from Austin Yemma, but couldn’t overcome Howland’s six-point halftime lead. Tommy Carnifax added 10 points for the Tigers (2-4).

Girard 70, Lakeview 50

CORTLAND

Dylan O’Hara fired in 25 points, including six 3-pointers, and the Indians (5-2, 2-1 AAC National Division) nailed half of their 22 attempts from beyond the arc. Jimmy Standohar added 12 points and Chaston Williams had 11 for Girard which led 23-13 after one quarter and 35-20 at halftime. Lakeview (1-5, 0-3) was led by Brandon Keller with 17 points and Jake Rosowicz with 12.

Western Reserve 44, Mineral Ridge 43

BERLIN CENTER

Nolan Snyder’s game-high 16 points lifted Western Reserve over Mineral Ridge. The Rams’ comeback attempt came up one point short, as they outscored the Blue Devils 11-5 in the final frame. Cory Phillips scored 12 points and connected three times from beyond the arc to lead Mineral Ridge.

Lowellville 62, Jackson-Milton 51

LOWELLVILLE

Jeremy Fitzpatrick led all scorers with 26 points for Jackson-Milton, but they weren’t able to overcome Lowellville’s balanced scoring attack. The Rockets got 19 points from Paolo DePasquale, 17 from Pat Mangine and 16 from Cole Beatty to improve to 4-1 on the season. The Bluejays remain winless and fall to 0-6.

Crestview 70, United 52

COLUMBIANA

Crestview won its first game of the season thanks to 23 points from Collin Gilbert, who had five 3-pointers, and 19 points from Dylan Hart. The Rebels jumped out to a 23-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Caleb Conser and Braden Davison each had 17 points for the Eagles.

Alliance 70, West Branch 52

ALLIANCE

Alliance improved to 4-0 behind a 26-point effort from JJ Kukura. The Aviators doubled up the West Branch in the first half outscoring them 40-20. The Warriors (2-4, 0-3) were led by Jarian Thomas with 10 points. Alliance made seven 3-pointers to West Branch’s four.

Bristol 78, Southington 54

BRISTOLVILLE

Bristol had four players in double figures, led by Brandon Lee with 21 points. Johnny Simcox, Logan Kozth and Gary Hopson all added 10 points to help the Panters (6-0, 4-0) stay unbeaten. Alex Jones nearly had a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Columbiana 55, East Palestine 49

COLUMBIANA

The Clippers overcame a three-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter. Dylan Ferraro led the way with 17 points and Nathan Garofolo and Drew Makosky each scored 9 points in the win. Columbiana withstood eight 3-pointers from East Palestine, with four coming from Bill Bibby. Bibby scored a game-high 20 for the Bulldogs.

Windham 87, Mathews 70

VIENNA

Parker Rickey’s 30 points and 17 rebounds propelled the Bombers to a convincing road win. Jared Taylor scored 17 points as well and Dillon Blewitt had 11. Rickey hit four 3-pointers. The Bombers out-scored the Mustangs 24-10 in the second quarter to break open a two-point game. Wyatt Ford posted 22 points for Mathews.

Maplewood 72, Badger 28

KINSMAN

Luke Evan led a balanced attack with 14 points and the Rockets outscored the Braves 45-14 in the second half. Luke Urchek added 10 points, Solomon Yoder had nine and Dan Denman scored nine apiece.

Newton Falls 60, Champion 46

Ozzie Hawkins led a balanced Tigers attack with 17 points and teammates Chris Greathouse (16), Jaden Walton (14) and Adam Czerniak also reached double figures. Greathouse made five 3-pointers for Newton Falls (4-3, 1-2 AAC National). Logan Cochran led the Golden Flashes with 17 points, Lucas Nasonti had 13 and Chris Miller added 11.

Jefferson 57, Liberty 52

Liberty

Sage Cantini and Sam Caskey each scored 15 points and the Falcons outscored the Leopards 12-3 during a decisive third quarter to win an AAC National game on the road. Lucas Hitchcock added 12 points and James Jackson had 10 for Jefferson. Asim Pleas led Liberty with 21 points, Lynn Bowden had 12 and Dan Markulin finished with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
