Elderly Girard woman reported missing

GIRARD

An 87-year-old Hazel Avenue woman with Alzheimer’s disease was reported missing by her family shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday.

According to police, Thelma Brown is 5 feet, 4 inches tall, and 145 pounds. She has blue eyes and brown hair, and was last seen by her daughter-in-law and caregiver at 2 a.m. Saturday. She was wearing gray and white pinstriped pajamas.

Police said they believe Brown is barefoot, as her slippers were found at the side of her bed, and not wearing her glasses, which were left on her night stand.

Because of her age and poor eyesight, along with the weather, police said they don’t think Brown ventured too far away from her home in the 500 block of Hazel Avenue.

The Girard and Liberty police departments, along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, are now searching a limited radius for Brown, and have covered local parks and wooded areas. They plan to expand the perimeter if necessary.

A statewide alert has been issued.
