Township police arrested a 32-year-old man from Reynoldsburg, Ohio, after an area car dealership told police a check he used to buy a new car would not go through.

Ricardo Vance Jr. is charged with theft by deception, a fourth-degree felony. He went to police with his attorney Thursday after he learned there was a warrant out for his arrest. Vance posted bond after he was booked.

He has a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Feb. 4.

On Dec. 10, a salesperson from Preston BMW on Market Street reported to police that a $66,507.25 personal check from Vance was not able to be cashed because of insufficient funds in his bank account.

Vance purchased a new BMW X-5 on Dec. 5. The next day, the bank contacted the dealership notifying the business there wasn’t enough money in his account to cover his purchase.

Vance told the Preston dealership he eventually would have enough money in the account to cover the purchase.

A BMW dealership in Akron then contacted Preston, saying Vance used a personal check to purchase a BMW there also on Dec. 5. The bank also declined that check, according to a police report.
