Ohioan gets 3 years in hit-skip with expecting mom

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — A judge has sentenced a southeastern Ohio man to three years in prison after a 2011 hit-skip accident in which a pregnant woman was injured.

The Athens County prosecutor’s office says 35-year-old Jason M. Richards, of Amesville, pleaded no contest to a felony aggravated vehicular assault charge.

He was sentenced Thursday by Judge L. Alan Goldsberry of Athens County Common Pleas Court. Besides the prison term, Richards will be subject to a 5-year license suspension when he’s released.

Richards has 15 days to appeal.

Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said the charges stemmed from a crash on June 4, 2011, along State Route 329. The driver of the other vehicle, who was injured, was a woman who was six months pregnant.
