The community came together for a Christmas celebration in Boardman Park Dec. 1.

Santa arrived by fire truck for the 17th annual Community Christmas and then sat in the gazebo to chat with children. They sat on his lap and told him their wishes for Christmas. He gave them each a lollipop. The evening was chilly, but the children waited in line for their turn. A bonfire near the gazebo provided warmth.

The event included the lighting of the Community Christmas tree. Also, families and community groups decorated the park’s pine trees. They decorated them with pinecones, birdseed, cereal and popcorn strings and more.

Trinity Sewruck, was at the event with her Girl Scout troop, to decorate a tree.

“Then we stayed to see Santa,” she said.

She told Santa she’d like a One Direction doll for Christmas.

Her friend, Lilly Lowe, asked for a scooter. Rocky Sewruck wants Star Wars items.

The three said it was fun to talk with Santa. They enjoyed the lollipops he gave them.

Inside the St. James Meeting House, members of the Boardman PTA Council provided hot chocolate and cookies free of charge.

The group started out with seven trays of cookies, but they went fast, said Nick Geraci. Geraci was in charge of the cookie line. The PTA accepted donations and also sold key chains and ornaments.

The Boardman High School band provided music in the meeting house.
