Santa Claus lecture at museum

George Johnson, who has written four books on Christmas decorations, will lecture on “The History of Santa Claus” at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s Carriage House, located behind the Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave.

Johnson will trace the development of Santa from earliest times to the present, and explain the origins of his names: St. Nicholas, Kris Kringle and Santa Claus. Johnson also will show items from his collection to illustrate the presentation.

The lecture is included with the price of admission to the “Memories of Christmas Past” exhibition at the Arms museum ($6; $5 for seniors; and $4 for children age 3 to 18). Sunday hours are 1 to 5 p.m.
