WARREN

The Salvation Army Warren Corps has teamed up with Bottom Dollar Food to offer 100 needy families a Christmas meal.

Bottom Dollar is donating 1,600 pounds of food that will be packaged by employees and volunteers today at Bottom Dollar’s Warren location, 1756 North Road NE. The holiday meal bags will include a spiral-cut ham, yams, green beans, cornbread and more.

The bags will be distributed to needy families by the Salvation Army Warren Corps, 270 Franklin St. SE, during the final day of Christmas distribution, starting at 9:30 a.m. today.

Youngstown

Today from 5 to 9 p.m., the Midlothian Free Clinic, 388 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown; the Corydon Palmer Dental Clinic at Choffin Career and Technical Center, 200 E. Wood St., Youngstown; and Hands of Hope Free Clinic, 418 Main Ave. SW, Warren, will have help available for their clients to sign up either for expanded Medicaid or private health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

This sign-up night is for clients of the three clinics and hopes to serve about 50 currently uninsured adults.

Drug investigations

YOUNGSTOWN

The police department’s vice squad served two search warrants while conducting drug investigations Tuesday.

At a 513 E. Florida Ave. home about 5:50 p.m., police found bags of suspected and marijuana and a pill bottle with 40 pills inside. Arrested on drug charges were Thomas Lacey, 58, and James Blackshear, 60.

At an 804 Parkview Ave. home about 6:50 p.m., officers found 21 bags of suspected marijuana, $206, and a .20-gauge shotgun. Arrested there on drug charges was Dajuan Hackett, 31.

Salaries approved by Weathersfield trustees

MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield Township trustees this week approved salaries for trustees and the fiscal officer at the maximum amount allowed by Ohio law.

Salaries of $12,346 annually, the current salary, was approved for trustees. Township fiscal officer Fred Bobovnyk’s annual salary of $21,221 a year, also his current salary, was approved.

Trustees will continue to meet at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month. Caucus is set for 8:30 a.m. on the Thursday two weeks before the regular meeting.

Meetings for the new year will include an 8 a.m. reorganizational meeting Jan. 9 and 9:30 a.m. budget meeting. The next regular meeting will be Jan. 14, with open forum at 6:15 p.m. and the regular meeting at 7 p.m.

Medical marijuana

YOUNGSTOWN

Ohio Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd, and state Rep. Robert F. Hagan of Youngstown, D-58th, will join local doctor Thomas E. Albani and others at 11 a.m. today at the B&O Banquet Hall, 530 Mahoning Ave., to discuss the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
