Man jailed in burglary, beating

YOUNGSTOWN

Police say a man broke into a Cedar Lane apartment early Sunday and beat a man with a stair railing.

Darius Beasley, 21, of Youngstown, was arraigned Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court on a charge of aggravated burglary. He is in the Mahoning County jail on a $75,000 bond.

Police were called to a Cedar Lane apartment about 2:25 a.m. Sunday for a report of trouble, and as an officer pulled onto the street he saw Beasley walking on the street wearing a T-shirt that was ripped in half.

The officer detained Beasley, and other officers went to the home, where a man inside said in a police report he was on a computer and another man was sleeping when Beasley came through a window and began beating the man who was sleeping.

Beasley had a broken stair rail and hit the man several times with it, breaking it in two, reports said. Police recovered both pieces and it was stained with blood, reports said.

Reports said Beasley had lived in the home at one point but had moved out about a week ago.

The victim had possible broken ribs and scrapes and cuts and was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

As a condition of his bond should he post it, Beasley is to stay away from the apartment and have no contact with the men inside.
