YSU Tau Beta Pi inducts new chapter members

Youngstown State University’s Ohio Lambda Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, an engineering honor society, inducted new members earlier this month.

The induction took place in Moser Hall at YSU and a banquet followed for current members, new inductees and guests.

To be eligible, students must be in the top eighth of junior engineering students, the top fifth of seniors or the top fifth of graduate students. Elvin Shields is the society’s adviser.

Students inducted this month are seniors Conor Banyon of McDonald, Michael Currao of Austintown, Marco Fox of Pittsburgh and Nicholas Somerfield of Hermitage; juniors Jeremy Hammond of Canfield, Ashley Martof of Mineral Ridge, Jacob Orwell of Boardman, Chad Piccirilli of Sharpsville, James Schuster of Damascus, Michael Slavens of Boardman and Benjamin Tadla of Poland; and graduate student Adam Palumbo of North Jackson.

Students to be inducted in the spring are seniors Estee George of Boardman and John Ugrin of Howland and graduate student Michael Valiski of Cortland.

The officers for the 2014-15 academic year are: Martof, president; Tadla, vice president; Orwell, recording secretary; Slavens, corresponding secretary; and Hammond, treasurer.

Tau Beta Pi was founded in 1885 to recognize outstanding students who display both distinguished scholarship in technical fields and exemplary character. Tau Beta Pi is highly regarded within industry and academia and has grown to include 241 collegiate chapters and has initiated more than 545,000 members.
