Send information for holiday listing

The Vindicator will publish a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The list will run on the Religion page Dec. 22. The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Information on services on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day should be submitted by Dec. 24. The list will be published Dec. 28.

Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb and time of Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day services. The information should be accompanied by a name and a phone number for verification or any questions.

‘Break Through Darkness’ service

St. Luke Church, will conduct a “Break Through the Darkness” nondenominational service at 2 p.m. Sunday for families and friends of a loved one who has died.

The service of light, Scripture and music will celebrate the lives of deceased loved ones. It is sponsored by Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home.

Traveler’s service

Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road (Route 62), will conduct the second annual Traveler’s Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. Dec. 22. The service is designed to help those who have a busy family schedule on Christmas Eve and are unable to attend church. Candles, carols and communion will be a part of service. The Rev. Russ Adams will deliver the message “Jesus’ Wish List.” For information, call the church at 330-792-5805.

Lessons and carols

A Festival of Lessons and Carols will be sung by the area Episcopal Choirs at 7 p.m. Dec. 22 at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. NE.

The festival is a format for a service of Christian worship celebrating the birth of Jesus. The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus is told in short Bible readings interspersed with Christmas carols and choral selections.

Participating will be the choirs of St. James Episcopal in Boardman; St. John’s Episcopal, Sharon, Pa.; St. John’s Episcopal in Youngstown; and Christ Episcopal with Dr. Richard Konzen, organist, and Gary P. Richards, director. Readers will be Lorenzo Thomas, Barbara Jones, Amanda Baker, John Manhollan, Janice Henrey, William Cooper, Dr. Lee Snelson and the Rev. Jeffrey Baker.

‘But’ program

YOUNGSTOWN

The adult choir of Jerusalem Baptist Church, 2003 Wilson Ave., will present a program using the conjunction “but” at 4 p.m. Sunday. Participants will be the Revs. Alvin White, Artis Henderson, Martha Taylor, Judy Reeder-Meeks, DeMaine Kitchen, Marvin McWilson and Denise Simmons. A free-will offering will be taken.
