On Nov. 1, following an all school Mass to commemorate All Saints Day, Mandy Sinchak led her Kindergarten class into Holy Family School to resume their day.

She was surprised to find Jess Briganti from WFMJ, a camera man and several staff and family members greeted her in her classroom by telling her that she had been nominated for the Giant Eagle Class Act Award by Kristin McCloud, a parent and fellow first-grade teacher at Holy Family School, a Lumen Christi Catholic School.

When asked by Briganti what she loved about teaching, Sinchak had many reasons.

“I love that I teach at Holy Family where I went to elementary school and where my colleagues are also my friends,” she said. “I can watch my students grow from not knowing letters to reading and writing. I also love that we can pray together in school and that we go to Mass together. It is also wonderful that I can teach at the same school that my son attends and I can teach with Holy Family parents as partners.”
