Local authors brought their work to the Poland library Dec. 5 and shared it with the public.

Each author staked out a table in the meeting room and set up displays of books, artwork and more.

The library offers the event twice a year, said Deborah Liptak, development director.

“This one is for the holidays, so the local authors have a chance to sell their books and sign them,” she said.

They also have the opportunity to talk about their books.

“What a great holiday gift, to purchase a book from a local author,” she added.

It’s an opportunity that can help launch the authors’ books, Liptak said.

“There are some really great books here,” she said.

Many of the authors also network with each other. They exchange ideas and learn the do’s and don’t’s of the publishing world from each other.

Hugh Earnhart of Poland wrote a cookbook and a children’s book. He offered both for sale at the library event.

He published the cookbook, “Eat like a Thresherman, Recipes of a Farming Generation,” a few years ago. He recently published “The Forgotten Pumpkin” and attended the event to promote it.

It’s the first time he’s participated in one of the library promotions. He said the cookbook would make a good gift. He hopes to write other books with the same animal characters in the pumpkin book.

“We’re going to try to make a series of it,” he said.

The former professor started writing for his family.

“I decided to do something for the grandkids,” he said.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library in conjunction with the Friends Bookstore. About 10 authors registered for it.
