Weathersfield gauges interest in renewing township festival

Weathersfield Township trustees are inviting local organizations and community groups to attend a meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the administration building to discuss restarting a township festival.
Trustees plan to name an exploration and steering committee to study having a festival in the township in 2014.
A resolution to try re-starting the festival was passed by trustees in October.
There had been a Fireman’s Festival as late as 1984 which was sponsored by the local firefighters, but logistics became a problem for a suitable location, and the festival ended.
The events had taken place at Fire Station No. 21 on state Route 46 and near the old middle school, also on Route 46.
Trustees said that several residents have inquired about the festival.
Trustee chairman Gil Blair said in a letter mailed to township groups: “It is our hope that organizations, including athletic boosters, churches, fire associations and other community groups will take an active role in making a festival a reality in Weathersfield Township.”
“Trustees view this as an ideal opportunity to bring the residents of our township together and provide a venue whereby organizations ... may raise money for valuable services they provide in our community,” the letter states.
