Police say Juan Santiago, 28, of Courtland Avenue in Campbell was the driver of a car that crashed into a utility pole Wednesday morning on U.S. Route 422. Santiago was killed in the accident.

A police spokesman said Santiago was driving north on Route 422 about 8 a.m. when his car slid off the road and hit the pole.

The spokesman said conditions did not contribute to the accident but speed did. He said investigators are trying to find out why the car suddenly left the road.
