Children used Rainbow Loom kits to create bracelets of the same name at the Boardman library Nov. 20.
“We noticed that the Rainbow Loom bracelets were a growing fad with the children and we thought it might be something fun to try,” said Allie Graf, a representative of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. “The kids seem to really get into it and it’s great for developing visual and audio skills, as well as hand-eye dexterity with the bands.”
The Nov, 20 event was the first Rainbow Loom program that the Boardman library has offered, but Graf has taken the program to several other branches, as well.
“Kids of all ages seem to get into it, although it’s really better for fourth-grade and up because of the smaller parts, but younger children can do it with adult supervision,” said Graf. “I would say that it’s 50/50 for boy and girl attendance.”
Rainbow Loom kits contain a weave board, a hook and a variety of colorful rubber bands to use to make the bracelets. Information, warnings and free instructional videos are available at www.rainbowloom.com.
