Mahoning commissioners approve pact for sewer repairs in Beaver Township
YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County commissioners approved a $138,400 contract with Marucci & Gaffney Excavating Inc. of Youngstown for the emergency repair of a sanitary sewer along Market Street Extension in Beaver Township that collapsed about a quarter mile south of Western Reserve Road about six weeks ago, causing sewer backup.
“We ended up replacing about 300 feet of pipe,” said Bill Coleman, office manager in the county sanitary engineer’s office.
Also today, the commissioners endorsed the county’s applications for Ohio Public Works Commission funds for a new elevated water storage tank in Canfield Township to ensure sufficient water pressure for firefighting and for a backup water supply line connecting the county system to the Lordstown water supply system.
The backup line would supply the county system in the event of a failure of the main line that delivers water from Youngstown, county officials said.
