Mahoning commissioners adopt 2014 general fund budget

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County commissioners this morning adopted a $50,241,014 general fund budget for 2014.

This compares to $50,270,321 for 2013 and $49,636,248 for 2012.

Some of the largest allocations for 2014 were $17,679,355 for the sheriff’s department; $5,583,526 for the juvenile court and $3,269,891 for the facilities department, which cleans and maintains county buildings.

The commissioners adopted the new budget after considering $60.5 million in 2014 budget requests from county departments.

The general fund is the county’s main operating fund.

It supports the courts, the county jail, and the prosecutor’s, coroner’s, auditor’s, treasurer’s, recorder’s and commissioners’ offices, the county’s 911 emergency dispatching center, the board of elections and veterans’ service commission.
