Police arrested a man they said tried to steal a 50-inch TV from the Walmart on Goldie Road.

Police said Tyrell Surles, 26, of Harvard Street in Youngstown was confronted by store security about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

He had put the TV in a shopping cart, wrapped a shirt that he also took from the store around its security sensor and tried to take it out of the store, police said.

But a security guard saw Surles bypass the checkout lines, the report said.

When he was confronted, he abandoned the TV and tried to run, the report says.

Surles struggled with security guards at the store exit doors, then they took him to the security office where they held him down until police came, the police report says.

Police took him to the Liberty station and charged him with robbery and possession of criminal tools. They found a folding knife on him, the report says.

He was taken to the Trumbull County Jail to await his arraignment, which was to be this morning in Girard Municipal Court.
