TV theft foiled at Liberty Walmart

LIBERTY — A man was charged with robbery and possessing criminal tools after he tried to smuggle a 50-inch TV out of the Walmart on Goldie Road, police reported.

Police said Tyrell Surles, 26, of Harvard Street in Youngstown wrapped a Walmart shirt around the TV's security sensor, but was spotted bypassing the checkout line.

Security confronted him at the exit doors. He tried to abandon the TV and run.

After a struggle, security took him to their office and called police.

He was in the Trumbull County Jail awaiting arraignment this morning in Girard Municipal Court.
