NEWTON FALLS

The Newton Falls Police Department will have its annual Fill A Cruiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Community Christmas located at Newton Falls Community Center, 52 E. Quarry St. Donations will stay within local pantries and assist the Veterans Pantry. Any monetary donations will benefit future Kids ‘N’ Cops events.

‘Keep the Kids Warm’

YOUNGSTOWN

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Youngstown is conducting its “Keep the Kids Warm” campaign between the Feast of the Holy Family on Dec. 29 and the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord on Jan. 12, 2014.

All of the funds raised are returned to the counties in which they were collected to provide utility bill assistance to working poor families who do not qualify for government assistance; families waiting for PIPP (Percentage of Income Payment Plan) Plus to authorize assistance; and families whose HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) benefits have been exhausted.

Water line breaks

BOARDMAN

Crews worked Tuesday evening to repair water main breaks in two communities.

A water main break on U.S. Route 224 near Tanglewood Boulevard closed a portion of 224 in Boardman for a few hours and in Youngstown, a water main break on Poland Avenue caused motorists to look for alternative routes.

Student struck by car

BOARDMAN

A 17-year-old student at Boardman reported to police on Monday that he was struck by a vehicle in the Boardman High School parking lot. The student said he was walking across the lot when a silver truck came directly at him. As the student moved to get out of the way, the side-view mirror on the truck struck his right shoulder. The driver and occupants were yelling and laughing at the student, according to a police report. The student gave police the name of the possible driver.

Found bound, gagged

WARREN

A 31-year-old Autumn Drive man was found bound and gagged and unresponsive in the basement of his home at 11 a.m. Monday. He was taken to St. Joseph Health Center, where he regained consciousness and is expected to be OK. Police classified the incident as an aggravated burglary, but it’s possible the victim and suspects knew each other, said Lt. Jeff Cole of the Warren Police Department.

Armed home invasion

CAMPBELL

A resident in the 200 block of Sixth Street reported an armed home invasion about 7 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival, officers searched the area for a suspect, whom the resident described as a white man between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, 18 to 45, and 130 to 165 pounds. He was wearing all-black attire with tennis shoes, a black mask and wire-framed glasses. His hoodie had either silver or gray designs on it.

The resident also told police the suspect pointed a silver, but not shiny, revolver in his face.

United Way donation

YOUNGSTOWN

The Home Savings Charitable Foundation has donated $2,500 to United Way Services of Northern Columbiana County in support its 2014 United Way campaign.

“Through a network of more than 1,300 local United Ways nationwide, volunteers and community service agencies, we work to meet education, health and human care need. All contributions to United Way Services of Northern Columbiana County are expended locally to help people in the service area,” said George W. S. Hays, UWSNCC executive director.
