No decision on Brown: Texas Athletic Director Steve Patterson says no decision has been made about the future of Longhorns coach Mack Brown.
Texas released a statement by Patterson several hours after Orangebloods.com reported, citing two unidentified sources, that Brown will announce he is stepping down by week’s end.
“We continue to discuss the future of Texas Football,” Patterson said. “Mack Brown has not resigned. And, no decisions have been made.”
Joe Jamail, Brown’s longtime friend and attorney, told The Associated Press on Tuesday: “Mack Brown has not resigned.” He says Brown’s future with Texas is still up to the coach.
Horns247.com, a Texas recruiting website, reported that Brown denied the report in a text from Florida, where he was recruiting.
Brown wrote to Horns247: “I have not decided to step down.”
Texas just completed another regular season that didn’t meet expectations. The Longhorns went 8-4, recovering from a 1-2 start and beating Oklahoma, but still finishing with lopsided late-season losses to Oklahoma State and Baylor.
Clawson hired at Wake Forest: Dave Clawson is eager to start his next rebuilding project at Wake Forest.
Clawson was introduced Tuesday as the Demon Deacons’ coach and said the job is “truly a dream come true.”
Athletic director Ron Wellman says “we have a winner” in Clawson.
The 46-year-old Clawson faces a tough job at Wake Forest, which is coming off its fifth straight losing season.
Gardner bothered by turf toe: Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner is bothered by turf toe, and the Wolverines want to get him some rest.
Coach Brady Hoke says Gardner didn’t practice Tuesday. Gardner has plenty of time to recover before Michigan plays Kansas State on Dec. 28 in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.
Gardner limped to a news conference with a protective boot on his left foot following Michigan’s one-point loss to Ohio State in the regular-season finale Nov. 30.
Hoke says he’s not going to speculate about how long Gardner will sit out. Bowl practices are now a chance for backup quarterback Shane Morris to get more reps.
Frazier in Hall: Tommie Frazier waited a couple years longer than many Nebraska fans felt was appropriate to get into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Being snubbed didn’t bother Touchdown Tommie. He’s just glad the call finally came and that so many appreciated his play.
Frazier is one of 12 former players who were to be inducted by the National Football Foundation in the College Hall of Fame on Tuesday night in New York.
Also among the inductees were Heisman Trophy winners Vinny Testaverde, Danny Wuerffel and Ron Dayne and former coaches Wayne Hardin of Temple and Navy and Bill McCartney of Colorado.
Frazier guided the Cornhuskers to back-to-back national championships in 1994 and ‘95 and played a year in the Canadian Football League.
Clowney ticketed: Authorities have released video of South Carolina star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney being ticketed, with troopers saying he drove 110 mph in a 70 mph zone.
Video obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press shows Clowney being pulled over in a Chrysler 300 around 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 77 north of Columbia.
The ticket carries a $355 fine.
