Suspect sought in shooting death of Warren 22-year-old
WARREN
A shooting and car theft at Atlantic Beverage Monday night has turned into a homicide.
Warren police released a report this morning saying that Khaled M. Nassar, 22, of Englesson Drive Northwest was fatally shot in the parking lot of the store at 408 Atlantic St. NE at 9:48 p.m.
Lt. Jeff Cole of the Warren Police Department, public information officer and officer in charge, said he was not able to say how many times Nassar was hit or to provide a motive for the shooting.
The suspect or suspects then got into Nassar’s vehicle, a 2007 GMC Yukon, and fled.
A Warren police officer spotted the vehicle and followed it, Cole said. At some point someone in the car fired at the officer, but he was not hit, Cole said.
Warren police called for assistance from other departments in Lordstown, and help was received from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office and other departments.
The suspect or suspects bailed out of the vehicle in a field near Hewlett Gifford Road in Lordstown and were not apprehended, Cole said.
It was the second shooting in the store’s parking lot in two nights. A 17-year-old male was hit in the elbow with a gunshot Sunday night. He is recovering, and police believe they are close to solving that case, Cole said, adding that police do not know if the two shootings are related.
Nassar was taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital from the scene. He was not employed by the store, but his family formerly owned it, sources said.
