Cats Are People Too will be at Pet Supplies Plus, 5555 Youngstown Warren Road, from 12 to 4 p.m. today for Photos With Santa. People can bring their pets or anyone they want and have an emailed photo taken with Santa for $5. Crafts, clothing, cat toys and more also will be available. There also is a box for donations of cat and dog food. Also on hand will be TNR of Warren and the Legacy Dog Rescue Team.

Help for kids, moms

The Maternal and Infant Early Childhood Home Visitation grant for fiscal year 2014 will provide home visits to any Mahoning County resident who is pregnant or has a child up to age 5. The staff conducting the home visits will provide health and development screenings, said Kim Johnson, infant and toddler supervisor. Referrals are accepted from any source, including the families themselves. All services are confidential and free. Referrals can be made by calling 330-965-7912. The $300,000 grant is administered by Mahoning County Educational Service Center.

Make candy canes

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is sponsoring a workshop for making candy canes as part of its Memories of Christmas Past event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, 325 W. Federal St. Cost is $2. Participants will learn how to make and bend candy canes with simple ingredients, and take some home. Reservations are required; call 330-743-2589.

Shop With a Cop

The Trumbull County Deputies Fraternal Order of Police No. 137 lodge will have its Shop With a Cop program starting in the mezzanine above the food court at Eastwood Mall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The shopping will be at SuperKmart, where kids will spend $100 each on whatever they choose. More than 30 children from throughout Trumbull County are expected to participate.
