Tales for Tots: Mice!

When: Today, 10 a.m. to noon.

What: You hear a small squeak, who could it be? Two- and 3-year-olds will learn about mice through storytelling and a fun holiday craft.

Where: Ford Nature Center, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown.

Winter Celebration: A Garden Conservatory

When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What: Showcases holiday color and festivities with floral displays and decorated trees in a specially built conservatory. Bring the kids to walk through our greenhouse and take home a new plant friend.

Winter Bird Survey

When: Dec. 15, 1 to 4 p.m.

What: Participants of all ages and skill levels are invited to survey the feeders and trails for winter birds. All data collected will be submitted to eBird.org to further our knowledge of which birds reside at the Nature Center for the winter.

Where: Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center, Minerva.

Winter Nights in the Gardens

When: Sundays, Dec. 15, 22, 29, 5 to 7 p.m.

What: Stroll along a mile of garden paths, enjoy the festivities of Winter Celebration during extended evening hours at the gardens, with cookies, hot cocoa, entertainment and more. Support Second Harvest Food Bank with donation of nonperishable food item.

Sunlight (Ages 3-5)

When: Dec. 19, 1 to 2 p.m., and Dec. 21, 11 a.m. to noon.

What: Let’s celebrate sunshine. Children and a caregiver learn about how the sun warms the earth and makes plants grow. A sunny snack, story and art will complete the day.

Cost: $6; FFRG member, $4.

Breakfast Botany: Fir

When: Dec. 20, 8:30 to 10 a.m.

What: Start your morning with a brisk walk to see plants growing in the gardens with Keith Kaiser. Return to Garden Cafe to enjoy a light breakfast and hear interesting facts about fir trees.
