A McKinley Christmas is Saturday in Niles

“A McKinley Christmas,” featuring re-enactors portraying the President William McKinley family, will be 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at three locations.

The re-enactors, including Mike Wilson as President McKinley, will greet visitors and talk about their 1850s Christmas at The McKinley Birthplace Home & Research Center, 40 S. Main St.

The home will be adorned with traditional decorations, and refreshments reminiscent of the 1850s will be served. A string trio from the Dana School of Music will play traditional Christmas music from 1 to 4 p.m.

Another event presented by the McKinley Memorial Library, McKinley Birthplace Home & Research Center, National Birthplace Memorial & Museum and the Niles Historical Society is children’s crafts in the Children’s Room of the library, 40 N. Main St., from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Musical entertainment will be provided at the Memorial Auditorium, featuring the members of the band from the TNT show “Honky Tonk Angels,” and Santa will make a guest appearance on the trolley starting at 12:30 p.m. The trolley will shuttle visitors to all destinations.

The Ward-Thomas House, 503 Brown St., home of the Niles Historical Society, will participate by demonstrating a Victorian Christmas. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided by the Salvation Army Canteen at the McKinley Memorial Library parking lot.

Visitors to the events are asked to park either at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home parking lot, 126 W. Park Ave., or First Christian Church, 33 N. Arlington Ave.

All events are free and open to the public.
