POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Nov. 23

Burglary: Police on New Castle Road arrested 23-year-old Jonathan D. Hale and 20-year-old Anthony M. Linzey, both of Woodbine Avenue, Struthers, on charges of burglary and complicity, respectively, after a break-in at a Bedford Road residence. Pocketknives and earphones were among items taken.

BOARDMAN

Nov. 27

Theft: A pair of socks was stolen from Family Dollar, 4026 South Ave.

Identity theft: A Jaguar Drive man learned someone had accessed his bank information and transferred $1,129 in pay to another bank without authorization.

Criminal damaging: A motorist drove through and did $500 in damage to a yard in the 5200 block of Royal Palm Drive.

Possible fraud: A worker for a South Avenue group home told officers she paid $250 for a vehicle that was never delivered to the facility.

Theft: Barbara A. Loto, 58, of Tippecanoe Road, Boardman, was charged in the theft of a vehicle-seat cover, cosmetics and a Christmas ornament from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A man in his 30s removed clothing and video games valued at $792 from Kmart.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 7500 block of Market Street was found with a broken rear-hatch window. The damage estimate was $500.

Theft: A woman at a Boardman-Poland Road gas station reported the theft of an envelope containing $1,100.

Domestic violence: David J. Kepko, 56, of Danbury Drive, Boardman, was charged with the crime after a responding officer alleged having heard an intoxicated Kepko threaten to harm his brother during an argument between the two family members.

Theft: Frank J. Maggiano, 35, faced a theft charge. Maggiano, of Fifth Street, Struthers, was accused of stealing a 1.75-liter bottle of whiskey worth $57 from Giant Eagle, 1201 Doral Drive.

Theft/drugs: Joseph G. Demello, 25, was charged with theft as well as possession of drug-abuse instruments and dangerous drugs after three T-shirts were stolen from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road. Demello, of Basil Avenue, Boardman, also had a used syringe and one 15-milligram pill in his pocket, a report said.

Nov. 28

Theft: Tanicqwa T. Wilkerson, 22, of Parkcliffe Avenue, Youngstown, faced charges of theft and obstructing official business after a pair of boots and undergarments were stolen from Sears in the Southern Park Mall. Wilkerson also provided several false names to police and loss-prevention officials, a report showed.

Menacing: A Wolosyn Circle woman reported her soon-to-be former husband has been harassing and following her.

Criminal damaging: A car at a Market Street auto-service center had a broken rear window.

Theft: A $350 cellphone was stolen from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.

Arrest: Kevin J. Syphard, 29, of Oakridge Drive, Boardman, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after having been stopped in the 900 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Nov. 29

Counterfeit: A Leighton Avenue man reported receiving a fake $2,150 check after having sold an item online.

Theft: Lorie A. Buckel, 47, of Clark Avenue, Wellsville, was charged in the theft of a $198 purse from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: Randall B. Ball Jr., 29, of Carter Circle, Boardman, was arrested at the Mahoning County jail on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a first-degree misdemeanor, after a Wellsville woman alleged Ball was one of two people to whom the accuser had loaned her 2000 Chevrolet Cruiser vehicle that was never returned.

Auto theft: A 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser was stolen in the 6000 block of South Avenue.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Overhill Road led to 38-year-old Kami J. Rotellini’s arrest on charges of possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia when, police said, two small pieces of suspected crack cocaine and a suspected crack pipe were found. Rotellini, of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, also was wanted on a Struthers warrant.

Arrest: A traffic stop near Glenwood Avenue led to 19-year-old Colin D. Clark’s arrest. Clark, of Market Street, Boardman, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.

Citation: Police cited Alvin Nelson Jr., 25, of Shirley Road, Youngstown, after pulling him over near South Avenue. He was accused of having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Nov. 30

Theft: A man in an orange-and-brown hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans stole 11 DVD sets and two comforter sets from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Arrest: Pamela E. Zitello, 28, of Mathews Road, Boardman, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after officers pulled her over near South Avenue.

Robbery: Alvin P. Traylor III, 46, of Detroit Avenue, Youngstown, faced robbery and criminal-trespassing charges after $205 worth of men’s clothing was stolen from Kohl’s. Traylor also pushed a store employee in an effort to escape, police said.

Theft: Melissa A. Manley of Lynn Avenue, Poland, was charged with stealing $99 worth of merchandise, including a hooded sweat shirt, from Kmart. The 31-year-old Manley also was wanted on warrants charging failure to appear in court on a theft count and failing to comply with a court order.

Theft: A handicap placard was removed from a car in the 8400 block of Market Street.

Citations: Two 17-year-old Youngstown boys were cited during a traffic stop in the 300 block of Boardman-Poland Road on charges of underage possession of tobacco.

Theft: A woman in her 50s took a pack of cigarettes from a Shell True North gas station, 1510 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Dec. 1

Menacing: A Lakeshore Drive man alleged a neighbor threatened to beat him up during a dispute that apparently arose when the neighbor accused the man of placing snow on his property.

Theft: Two sets of ear buds and a portable speaker were stolen from AT&T Wireless, 650 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Theft: Deandre C. Smith, 20, of Woodcrest Avenue, Youngstown, was charged, accused of stealing two shirts, a hat and a pair of socks from Macy’s.

Arrests: Authorities in the 5300 block of Market Street pulled over and took into custody 19-year-old Marcus J. Jarvis of West Main Street, Salineville, who was wanted on a felony Columbiana County warrant charging receiving stolen property. Also arrested was Julya M. Prendergast, 22, of Thompson-Clark Road, Bristolville, on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after police said a suspected crack pipe and a small amount of suspected marijuana were found.

Theft: A $100 iPod device and two subwoofers were removed from a vehicle in the 100 block of Lemans Drive.

Theft: A man stole two boxed sets of DVDs valued at $254 from Walmart.

Trespassing: A Ewing Road woman said she saw a suspicious man in a jogging suit near the side of her home as she let her dog out. The man then fled, she reported.

Theft: Twelve or 13 wristwatches and a three-rack display case were stolen from Gracylane, a jewelry store in Southern Park Mall.

Theft: An $800, 32-gigabyte iPod device was taken from American Eagle Outfitters in Southern Park Mall.

Dec. 2

Theft: Three employees with a business in the 300 block of Boardman-Poland Road reported money and other items stolen from their purses.

Theft: A camera and related equipment were removed from an examination room at Akron Children’s Hospital, 6505 Market St.

Theft: A Struthers woman reported her wallet stolen while at a Doral Drive store.

Criminal damaging: Someone did $250 in damage to a vehicle’s windshield in the 50 block of Shields Road.

Theft: Tyler P. Fisher, 28, and Brandon E. Mayhew, 25, both of Weirton, W.Va., faced misdemeanor and felony charges, respectively, of theft and possession of criminal tools after three iPad computers valued at $1,147, as well as a computer tablet, were stolen from Walmart.

Criminal damaging: A Jaguar Drive man said his former girlfriend did $100 in damage to his home’s vinyl siding.

Theft: Two men stole several 7- and 8-inch computer tablets and similar items from Walmart.

Theft: Sweat pants and sweat shirts valued at $389 were stolen from Victoria’s Secret in Southern Park Mall.

Dec. 3

Vandalism: Someone in the 1300 block of Doral Drive covered part of a car with lotion and used a key to damage a portion of its finish.
