Man arrested after confrontation with police in Campbell

CAMPBELL — A Campbell man faces charges of disorderly conduct, obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

At 9 p.m. Monday, police reported to the 100 block of Tremble Avenue in response to a homeowner complaining that her son's girlfriend, who was accused of being intoxicated according to police reports, had refused to leave the residence.

The homeowner said, too, that her son's girlfriend had attacked her, then threw beer all over her house. Police noticed beer cans scattered all over the floor, as well as the homeowner's pants wet with beer.

The homeowner's son, 45-year-old William R. Profanchik, of the Tremble Avenue residence, kept interrupting officers while they attempted to gather Profanchik's girlfriend's side of the story.

He also moved toward the officers in a confrontational manner, with his fists clenched, and began yelling at them for being in his house, police said.

Officers gave Profanchik a verbal warning for disorderly conduct, but his behavior escalated. When police told him he was being placed under arrest, he lunged toward an officer, and struggled to get away from police.

A large black dog at the residence then bit an officer on his left arm, breaking through his uniform and skin. The dog warden took custody of the dog, and the officer was treated for the bite at St. Elizabeth Health Center, since Profanchik's girlfriend could not provide registration or any other paperwork for the dog.

Profanchik was transported to the Campbell City Jail, where bond was set at $375. He is set to appear in court on Friday.

Neither woman was charged, due to conflicting statements about what happened and a lack of physical evidence.
