Boardman’s Zidian named all-conference
PITTSBURGH
Duquesne sophomore DT Zach Zidian, a Boardman High graduate, earned second team all-Northeast Conference honors. Zidian had 44 tackles, including 5.5 for loss with 2.5 sacks, for the Dukes (7-4, 4-2), who shared the conference title. He also recovered four fumbles.
Harding’s Herron out for the season
INDIANAPOLIS
Colts running back Daniel “Boom” Herron will have surgery for a torn pectoral muscle and will be placed on season-ending injured reserve. Herron, a Warren Harding High graduate who played at Ohio State, appeared in six games this season after being signed off the Bengals’ practice squad. He carried five times for 33 yards and caught one pass for 57 yards.
Niles QB Paden chosen TCCA player of year
WARREN
Quarterback Kyle Paden of Niles was named the Trumbull County Coaches Association player of the year Monday night at the association’s annual banquet. The award, voted on by a panel of media members, goes to a senior Trumbull County football player. Paden completed 209 of 345 pass attempts in 2013 for 2,977 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Pirates acquire catcher Stewart from Yankees
PITTSBURGH
The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired catcher Chris Stewart from the New York Yankees for a player to be named. Stewart hit .211 with four home runs and 25 RBIs in 109 games for New York. He threw out 17 runners, the fifth-highest total in the American League. To make room for Stewart, 31, on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated catcher Mike McKenry for assignment.

Free-agent left-hander Scott Kazmir agreed to terms on a $22 million, two-year contract with the Oakland Athletics on Monday, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said. The deal is pending a physical. The 29-year-old Kazmir went 10-9 with a 4.04 ERA in 29 starts and 158 innings last season for Cleveland.
The Indians, meanwhile, did not tender contracts to catcher Lou Marson, outfielder Matt Carson and right-hander Tyler Cloyd. The club avoided salary arbitration with relievers Frank Herrmann and Blake Wood by signing them to one-year contracts for $560,000.
Tigers trade Fister to Nationals for 3 players
DETROIT
The Detroit Tigers traded right-hander Doug Fister to the Washington Nationals for three players Monday night, opening a spot in their rotation and perhaps saving some money to keep Max Scherzer beyond next season. Detroit received infielder Steve Lombardozzi, minor league lefty Robbie Ray and reliever Ian Krol for Fister, a 14-game winner.

Former Ranger Olli Jokinen broke a tie with 7:18 left in the third period and then netted an insurance goal moments later to lift the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-2 victory over the New York Rangers Monday night. In other games, Jason Pominville and Charlie Coyle scored 57 seconds apart early in the third period to lift the Minnesota Wild to a 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers; and Alex Galchenyuk scored midway through the third period to help the Montreal Canadiens beat the New Jersey Devils 3-2.
NBA: Duncan bucket lifts Spurs over Hawks
Tim Duncan made a jumper with 0.4 seconds left to lift the San Antonio Spurs to a 102-100 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. Duncan finished with 23 points and 21 rebounds. In other games, Trevor Ariza scored 24 points and John Wall had 16 points and 13 assists as the Washington Wizards beat the Orlando Magic 98-80; Marvin Williams scored five points in the final two minutes and Gordon Hayward scored 29 points as the Utah Jazz beat the Houston Rockets 109-103.
