Pregnant Ohio woman shot dead, toddler wounded

RIPLEY, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a young Ohio woman found shot dead in her car was pregnant and that her 14-month-old daughter had a gunshot wound to the head.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office released those new details today but did not say how far along 22-year-old Brittany Stykes was in her pregnancy.

Authorities originally responded to a call Wednesday night about a single-vehicle crash on State Route 68 north of Ripley, about 45 miles southeast of Cincinnati.

When they arrived, they found Stykes dead from gunshot wounds. Her baby daughter was still strapped in her car seat, bleeding from head wound.

The baby is being treated at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. A hospital spokesman declined to say how she was doing.
