At the Poland Touch-a-Truck event Aug. 18, children could touch more than trucks. Sponsored by Platt Insurance Group, the event included the official show car of the Nascar Nationwide Series.

“It’s a community event that we did for the community, to reach out, get to know our neighbors, get to know the people of Poland,” said Ellie Platt, owner of Platt Insurance Group.

Children were able to see and touch an ambulance, fire truck and police car, and get close to the Nascar show car. They also could take a spin around a track using the Nationwide racing simulator.

Preslie Bodine of Poland said the simulator was “cool.”

Her dad, Matt Bodine, said, “That’s kind of a unique thing you don’t see anywhere else. That’s kind of neat.”

Both Preslie and her brother, Vander, received firefighter hats. Vander said the fire truck was his favorite vehicle.

“I think it’s awesome,” Preslie said of the event.

Platt employees passed out free pizza and an ice cream truck offered free ice cream.

Ty Novotny of Canfield chose ice cream that turned his tongue blue. His favorite part of the event, though, was the fire truck.

“It’s great, something fun to do today,” his mother, Alexis Novotny said about the event.

“It’s everything a 4-year-old loves,” his dad, Sean Novotny, added.

Participants could also spin a prize wheel for a chance to win Nascar prizes. Classic cars were on display, as well.
