Mill Creek to have Green Cathedral event

Mill Creek MetroParks has announced that the first Green Cathedral Half Marathon/5K/Kid’s Fun Run will be Sept. 15. Race times will be 8 a.m. for the children’s fun run, 8:30 a.m. for the half marathon, and 8:45 a.m. for the 5K.

The event is designed to be a fun, energetic and entertaining day for runners, walkers and spectators of all ages. The races, for both the casual and competitive participants, will showcase the natural splendor and unique architecture that define historic Mill Creek Park.

The entertainment, including the River’s Own band, children’s activities and Child ID kits will be stationed at the Wick Recreation Area (Start/Finish) and will provide a festive, family atmosphere with many activities to participate in.

Through the Green Cathedral, Mill Creek MetroParks hopes to encourage families to get outside, increase physical activity and enjoy the oldest park district in the state.

Challenge yourself on the half marathon course, get a group of friends or co-workers to run/walk the 5k and encourage your children to participate with their friends in the children’s fun run.

Prizes and participation awards will be provided for all age groups.

Get a group together from your place of business and enter the Green Cathedral Half Marathon/5K as a team. Participate in a friendly competition while supporting a great cause.

Funds generated from this event will be dedicated toward the completion of the children’s playground project at Wick Recreation Area.
