Eric Planey, the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber’s vice president for International Business Attraction, is resigning to take an international banking position in New York.

Planey will be leaving his chamber post in mid-September to assume the position of vice president and client executive for the Leveraged Finance & Financial Sponsors Group for Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. in New York. A Youngstown native, Planey came to the Regional Chamber in July 2009 to take over new duties of attracting international companies to the Mahoning Valley and helping local businesses grow in the export market.

New ATM feature

PNC Bank has installed an easy-deposit feature at 3,600 ATMs in all markets it serves.

The “smart” ATMs, which can be located via pnc.com/depositeasy from among the bank’s 7,200 ATMs nationwide, enable customers to cash checks and deposit stacks of cash or checks without an envelope at any time year-round.

Sheely’s Furniture and Appliance, 11450 South Ave., is helping feed hungry families in the Mahoning Valley on Labor Day.

Anyone who drops off a donation of nonperishable food items will receive a $100 coupon to be used that day on a purchase of $1,000 or more.

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley will receive the donations. The food bank distributes food to 153 hunger-relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Hess scholarships

Oil and gas company Hess Corp. has partnered with the Eastern Gateway Community College Foundation to offer $10,000 in scholarship funds to help displaced workers and other students to pursue higher education there.

The company anticipates awards valued at up to $1,000 each.

Successful candidates must be enrolled full or part time at Eastern Gateway. They must live in Jefferson, Harrison or Belmont counties. Students pursuing degrees or certificates in programs that relate to the energy field or support the local community may apply for the scholarship. Examples of programs include natural-gas technology, welding, environmental science, instrumentation and control, nursing, accounting, business management and emergency-medical services, among others.

Bottles of Tylenol sold in the U.S. soon will bear red warnings alerting users to the potentially fatal risks of taking too much of the popular pain reliever. The unusual step, disclosed by the company that makes Tylenol, comes amid a growing number of lawsuits and pressure from the federal government that could have widespread ramifications for a medicine taken by millions of people every day.
