Suspect hits cruiser in Campbell

Police arrested a fleeing suspect who almost caused an accident on McCartney Road and ended up hitting the city’s police dog cruiser.

Devin Thompson, 20, of Duncan Lane in Youngstown, was arrested after police tried to stop him for a traffic violation late Tuesday night.

Police chased him to McCartney Road, where he nearly caused an accident in heavy traffic, a report says. They caught up with him on Clinton Street, where he hit the cruiser on the passenger side and was arrested after a struggle, police said. They found a loaded gun, marijuana and nearly $3,000 in cash in his car.

He is charged with reckless operation, fleeing and eluding, carrying a concealed weapon, drug possession, assault and resisting arrest. His arraignment is tomorrow morning in Campbell Municipal Court.
