New Wilmington to mark 150th year

NEW WILMINGTON, PA.

The essence of small-town America will be displayed when New Wilmington, Pa., celebrates its 150th anniversary Sept. 7 and 8.

Sherie Babb and Susan Ligo, members of the borough council are co-chairing the celebration. They have set the scene with vintage flags and banners that adorn the streets of this small community nestled in the Amish countryside on state Route 208 east of Youngstown.

Highlighting the celebration will be a sesquicentennial parade, memorial dedication, cornhole tournament, 5K race, car show, vintage fashion show, children’s games, farmers market, and food and craft vendors.

On Sept. 7, a parade will begin at 10 a.m., and an opening ceremony will follow. The day will end at 9 p.m. with fireworks.

On Sept. 8, activities will begin at 8 a.m. with the race, followed by a community worship service. A TV raffle will conclude the celebration at 4 p.m.
