Boy, 15, gets locked up for burning boy, 7

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The mother of a 7-year-old western Pennsylvania boy says a 15-year-old charged with burning her son has been ordered to juvenile detention — and could remain there until he’s 21, depending on how his rehabilitation progresses.

The attacker isn’t being identified because his case played out in a closed Butler County Juvenile Court hearing on Wednesday.

But police have previously said the boy is the son of 36-year-old Edward Myers, of Saxonburg, who has already been ordered to stand trial on charges he threw flammable nail polish onto the 7-year-old before his son set the younger boy on fire back in May. Myers lived with the boy’s mother.

That woman, Laure Halliwell, says her son is undergoing counseling once a week to deal with the third-degree burns that scarred his face and chest.
