Due to the African Male Wellness Walk/Run, these streets will be closed, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday: Clearmont Drive between Hudson and Firnley Avenue; Firnley between Clearmont and Indianola Avenue; Hudson between Clearmont and Sherwood Avenue; Indianola between Firnley and Griselda Avenue; Glenwood Avenue between Parkview Avenue and Lake Drive; Sherwood between Hudson and Volney Road; Volney between Sherwood and Lake; and Lake between Volney and Glenwood. Some secondary roads also may be affected briefly as the run/walk passes.

Cancer survivors

ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital, an affiliate of ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, in collaboration with the American Cancer Society and Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation, sponsors the 24th Annual Cancer Survivorship Day from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Lincoln School, 2253 Atlantic St. NE.

Survivorship Day allows cancer survivors to connect with one another, celebrate milestones and recognize those who have supported them along the way. The program includes a presentation by Dr. Gary Koski, American Cancer Society researcher and assistant professor of biological sciences at Kent State University.

The program is free. Cancer survivors, family members and friends are encouraged to attend.

Church, school sold

Immaculate Conception Church and school, 811 and 810 Oak St., were sold at a weekend auction by Jeff Byce of ByceAuction and Realty.

Stephen Malutic of Campbell, a real estate investor, bought the properties for $47,300. He declined to comment on how the buildings might be used.

Byce said there were five registered bidders among the large crowd of onlookers.

The historic bells at the church and school recently were removed and relocated to St. Angeli Merici Parish at Sacred Heart Church, 400 Lincoln Park Drive. Sacred Heart and Immaculate Conception merged Jan. 9, 2011, and the last Mass at Immaculate Conception was Jan. 30, 2011. Stained-glass windows with sacred images also were removed.

Block party

Youngstown

A community block party on Monday will close Margaret Avenue between Burlington Street and Glenmont Avenue from noon to 9 p.m.
