Report: Cleveland police use of force 'sound'
CLEVELAND (AP) — A report finds the Cleveland Police Department’s use of force policies are sound and on par with national standards.
The results of the study by the Police Executive Research Forum were released today by police chief Mike McGrath, who says he has put 25 of 26 recommendations in place to enhance existing policies and training.
McGrath requested the review in March 2011, and it was done in two phases.
Use-of-force concerns were renewed last year after a chase ended in 137 shots fired at a fleeing driver and passenger who were killed.
A study by the Ohio Attorney General found widespread failures of police command, control and communications leading to the Nov. 29 chase.
Cleveland mayor Frank Jackson disputed Attorney General Mike DeWine’s findings.
